To date, DC-Digital has put 15 LED digits in one line on a display. Who needs that many numbers in a display, you may ask?

Five Guys, the classic burger joint, has asked DC-Digital to create a counter that would display how many pounds of potatoes they fried per second in their restaurants. This timer works by using a network program. Five Guys requested that the timer show an initial value. From there, every second, that value gets increased by another value. In this case, Five Guys was frying 5 and a quarter pounds of potatoes every second. That is a lot of hot and delicious fries!

This custom DC-Digital order showcases a powerful and highly visible solution for real-time rate tracking using two network-based displays: the DC-25 on the left and a 15-digit rate display on the right. Designed for high-impact environments, these displays communicate live production or activity metrics in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand.

At the core of this system is the ability to take an initial value and continuously increment it at a defined rate. In this application, the displays are configured to track a “per second” rate—specifically, a continuously increasing total based on a fixed increment. This makes the system ideal for visualizing ongoing processes such as production output, throughput, or pace tracking in real time.

The 15-digit display on the right is built for large-scale totals. With the ability to handle values up to 15 digits, it is well-suited for tracking cumulative metrics that quickly grow into the millions or billions. This makes it particularly effective for franchise-wide or enterprise-level visibility, where aggregated totals are important for both internal tracking and customer engagement.

On the left, the DC-25 provides a complementary 12-digit display. While slightly smaller in capacity, it still supports large values and is ideal for localized tracking—such as monitoring performance at a single location or station. Together, these two displays create a layered visualization approach: one showing the broader cumulative total, and the other reflecting a more focused, local metric.

Both displays operate using a web-based interface, making them extremely flexible and easy to manage. Each unit hosts its own web page, which can be accessed through any standard browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. This allows users to configure and control the displays without specialized software.

Key configuration capabilities include:

  • Setting a starting value for the display
  • Defining the rate of increment (from very slow to extremely fast intervals)
  • Adjusting network settings (DHCP or static IP)
  • Customizing device names and login credentials

Once configured, the displays begin counting automatically, updating in real time based on the defined rate. The refresh occurs approximately once per second, ensuring that the displayed value remains current and accurate relative to the configured increment.

The system is structured around three main interface tabs:

  • Home Tab: Displays the live value and current rate of change
  • System Setup Tab: Allows adjustment of the starting value and increment rate
  • Network Setup Tab: Handles IP configuration, credentials, and connectivity settings

From a hardware perspective, these units are built with durability and visibility in mind. Both displays feature 2.3-inch high LED digits housed in brushed aluminum enclosures, offering a clean and professional appearance. The enclosures include adjustable mounting tabs, allowing for flexible installation on walls or flat surfaces.

Connectivity is handled via standard Ethernet (RJ-45), enabling seamless integration into existing networks. Power is supplied through a 120-volt wall adapter with a six-foot cord and a 2.1mm coaxial plug, though Power over Ethernet (PoE) compatibility provides additional installation options when needed.

This combination of high digit capacity, real-time rate tracking, and browser-based control makes the DC-25 and 15-digit display system a versatile solution for a wide range of applications. Whether used for production monitoring, pace tracking, or public-facing data visualization, the system delivers clarity, scalability, and ease of use in a single integrated package.
