Trendway Corporation, a manufacturer focused on producing office furniture efficiently and consistently, ordered a DC-Digital Production Pace Interval Counter to provide real-time visibility into production performance on the manufacturing floor. The system is designed to compare the expected production pace with the actual number of units produced, giving operators and production personnel an immediate view of planned output, actual output, and calculated efficiency.

The Planned function establishes the expected production pace based on the amount of time allocated to produce each unit. The pace can be programmed for intervals of up to 9,999 seconds per piece, allowing the display to automatically increment the planned production count as time passes. The system can also be configured for production rates based on pieces per second or pieces per minute, providing flexibility for different manufacturing processes and production speeds.

As production takes place, the Actual count is incremented by the operator or through an external production signal. Trendway can use the included heavy-duty palm switch to register each completed unit, while the system can also accept signals from a relay, switch, sensor, or PLC. This allows the counter to be incorporated into a manufacturing process where production events are already being monitored electronically.

The third display function, Efficiency, provides a real-time comparison between planned and actual production. By calculating the percentage difference between the two counts, the system gives production personnel an immediate indication of whether the manufacturing process is keeping pace with the established production goal. Efficiency can be displayed up to 200%, making the system useful for monitoring production performance throughout a work period.

• Actual Production: Tracks completed units with an actual count up to 9,999.
• Efficiency: Calculates and displays the percentage relationship between actual and planned production, up to 200%.

• External Production Inputs: Accepts NPN or PNP 5–30VDC signals from sensors, switches, relays, or PLC equipment.
• Operator Control: Includes a 24-key wired keypad for programming the planned pace, adjusting the actual count, and pausing the pace timer.

The planned production function is operated through a wired 24-key keypad programmer/controller supplied with 25 feet of cable and an RJ-45 quick disconnect. This controller allows the production pace to be changed directly for the requirements of a particular manufacturing operation. The actual count can be manually controlled using the high-impact palm switch or automatically incremented through an external control signal.

The display uses 2.3-inch super-bright red 7-segment LED digits that can be viewed from approximately 120 feet. This provides production personnel with a highly visible indication of manufacturing progress without requiring workers to be directly beside the equipment. The display is housed in a tough, fingerprint-resistant, black powder-coated aluminum enclosure measuring approximately 16 inches wide by 15.75 inches tall by 2.25 inches deep. Adjustable teardrop mounting tabs provide a practical method for installing the display in a production environment.
