Countdown Timer

The DC-60T-DN-BCD End of Period Countdown Car Wash Drive-Thru Timer is designed specifically to help car wash operators limit and control the amount of time workers spend vacuuming the interior of each vehicle. This was a requested function by the people of Tommy Terrfic’s Car Wash. By implementing a clear, automated timing system, this timer helps improve workflow consistency, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure each customer receives the same allotted service time.

The concept behind this system is simple and effective. The operator sets the desired countdown time using the internal BCD rotary switches, and the countdown is automatically started when a vehicle drives over the pneumatic air hose switch positioned at the drive-thru entrance. This removes the need for manual starting, ensuring the timer is triggered consistently with every vehicle that enters the service area.

Once triggered, the display immediately resets to the preset time and begins counting down. In this demonstration, the timer is initially configured for a short countdown to illustrate its operation, though the unit is capable of counting down from a maximum of 99 minutes and 59 seconds. After reaching zero, the timer continues counting upward, providing additional visibility into overtime if workers exceed the allotted vacuuming period.

When the count-up reaches the programmed end-of-period threshold, the built-in buzzer alarm sounds, signaling to staff that it is time to move on to the next customer. This audible cue eliminates guesswork and helps maintain steady throughput during peak operating hours.

The timer can also be paused at any time using the 60 mm red momentary pause switch, allowing staff to temporarily stop the count when needed. Both the pause switch and the pneumatic air hose switch are wired into a terminal block, creating a clean and reliable control setup.

Key functional highlights include:

  • Automated countdown start triggered by a vehicle driving over the pneumatic air hose switch
  • Preset countdown time configured via internal BCD rotary switches
  • Countdown to zero followed by count-up timing
  • End-of-period buzzer alarm to signal time expiration
  • Manual pause control using a heavy-duty 60 mm red momentary switch

The end-of-period buzzer alarm is mounted on the top left of the enclosure and can be adjusted to sound at 95 dB or 105 dB, depending on the noise level of the environment. This ensures the alert is clearly heard even in busy, outdoor car wash settings.

From a hardware standpoint, the DC-60T-DN-BCD is built for durability and visibility in demanding conditions.

Hardware and construction features include:

  • Extruded aluminum enclosure rated IP66 for outdoor wet locations
  • Large 6-inch LED digits visible from up to 300 feet
  • Four-digit display supporting up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds
  • Counts down to zero, then counts up to 99:59
  • 120 VAC power input via junction box with pigtails

Mounting is flexible and installer-friendly. The enclosure includes two slotted teardrop mounting tabs located on the back, which can be repositioned horizontally along the extrusion channel. This allows the timer to be mounted at virtually any spacing required for walls, beams, or structures commonly found in car wash facilities.

Included accessories for this custom configuration are:

  • Heavy-duty 60 mm red momentary pump switch with 25 ft of cable
  • Adjustable end-of-period buzzer alarm rated 95–105 dB
  • DC pneumatic air hose switch for drive-thru vehicle detection
  • 20 ft air hose with attached anchor

The DC-60T-DN-BCD countdown timer provides a straightforward, automated solution for controlling service time in car wash drive-thru environments. By clearly displaying time, automating the start of each cycle, and providing both visual and audible alerts, this system helps operators maintain efficiency, consistency, and throughput throughout the day.
