When Kimball Electronics reached out for a timer that would assist them in creating, DC-Digital answered with their newest model. Our latest custom order, the DC-10T-DN-BCD-FOOT-HI-EOP, was designed for a client who needed a precise way to measure the brightness inside light bulbs within a specific timeframe. This countdown timer provides a simple, hands-free method of timing tests while ensuring consistency from one product to the next.

The process is straightforward. The client sets the desired countdown time using our BCD rotary switches, then initiates the timer by pressing the hands-free foot switch. Once the timer reaches zero, a loud end-of-period buzzer sounds for exactly one second, signaling that the time has elapsed and it’s time to move on to the next product or bulb.

This product was built for efficiency and accuracy, allowing users to quickly repeat testing cycles without manual resets. After each cycle, the timer automatically resets to the time value set on the rotary switch, ready to run again with a single press of the foot switch.

Key Functions and Operation

  • Hands-free start – Operated by a durable foot switch, freeing up the user’s hands.
  • Flexible countdown times – Set using the rotary switches, from just a few seconds up to longer test durations.
  • Clear end-of-period alert – One-second buzzer notification when the countdown reaches zero.
  • Automatic reset – Timer reloads to the preset countdown value after each cycle.

For example, if the client sets the time to 10 seconds, the buzzer signals at zero, and the system resets back to 10 seconds. If the setting is changed to 15 seconds, the timer immediately adapts and runs from that new value.

Hardware and Build Details

The DC-10T-DN-BCD-FOOT-HI-EOP was engineered with durability and visibility in mind:

  • Enclosure: All-aluminum housing with a black powder-coated finish for strength and protection.
  • Display: 1-inch digit size, clearly visible from up to 25 feet away.
  • Digits: Four digits, displaying minutes and seconds only (no shifting between hours and minutes).
  • Power: 120 to 240 VAC wall adapter, mounted to the right side of the enclosure.
  • Accessories:
    • DC-EOPB-7595 – End-of-period buzzer (1-second tone at countdown completion).
    • DC-FOOT-25 – Foot switch input with 25 ft of cabling. This single-function input only starts the countdown (no stop or reset).

The foot switch connects through a terminal ID block inside the enclosure, making it possible to replace or swap the input device if needed.
