The timer counts down from a programmed value of up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and continues measuring time down to hundredths of a second. When the countdown reaches 00:00, the display changes to show a negative sign and continues counting upward. This provides a silent indication that the allotted time has expired without requiring an audible warning or verbal interruption. The flashing display further emphasizes that the speaker has moved into overtime.

The DC-40T-DN-W-NEG uses five super-bright red 7-segment LED digits with an actual digit height of 4 inches. The display can be viewed from distances of up to 200 feet, making it suitable for auditoriums, meeting rooms, classrooms, presentation areas, conference facilities, and other locations where the timer needs to remain visible while the speaker is facing the audience.

The included handheld wired remote provides direct control of the timer through a membrane switch pad connected by 25 feet of cable. The display operates from a 120–240 VAC power source through the included PS-12-700 wall adapter with a 6-foot power cord.
