DC-Digital’s custom-built DC-25T-DN-BCD-NEMA-EOP Master Secondary Countdown Timer is designed to help HB Food Specialty coordinate production activities between separate processing and packaging areas. This specialized timer system combines programmable countdown timing, master-secondary controls, and visual status indicators to help manage the movement of materials through an oven and hopper while coordinating the work of operators on different floors.
The system allows the upper-floor operator to set and start the countdown while the lower-floor operator uses a dedicated secondary push button to signal when the hopper has been emptied. By linking the timing cycle to the secondary reset action, the configuration helps establish a consistent sequence for processing, unloading, and preparing the next batch.
Coordinating Food Processing and Packaging Operations
In food production environments, timing and communication between processing stages are important to maintaining an orderly workflow. When one team manages processing equipment and another handles packaging, both groups need to know when the next step can begin. The DC-25T-DN-BCD-NEMA-EOP provides HB Food Specialty with a visual timing and control solution designed around this requirement.
The master timer is operated from the upper floor using a heavy-duty wired controller. The operator sets the desired countdown duration and presses Start to begin the cycle. Throughout the countdown, the display shows the remaining time, giving personnel a clear indication of the process’s progress.
When the countdown reaches zero, the system signals the lower-floor team that the hopper can be emptied. The upper-floor controls remain locked out until the lower-floor operator completes unloading and activates the secondary reset switch. This action changes the status indication to red, communicating that the hopper is ready to be loaded again. Once the next batch is prepared, the upper-floor operator can initiate another countdown.
Master Countdown Timer and Secondary Reset Controls
The master-secondary configuration is a central feature of this custom order. Each control serves a specific purpose within the production cycle, helping ensure that the transition between processing and packaging follows the intended sequence.
The heavy-duty wired master controller allows the upper-floor operator to manage the countdown, including setting the time, starting the cycle, resetting the timer to zero, and restoring the previous set value. These functions are particularly useful when a facility repeats similar production cycles and needs a straightforward way to manage process timing.
The secondary station gives the lower-floor team direct control over the reset action. Rather than relying solely on the countdown reaching zero, the system requires the unloading process to be acknowledged before the next cycle can proceed.
Key functions include:
- Programmable countdown: Set the desired timing interval for the production process.
- Start and reset controls: Operate the timer and prepare it for subsequent cycles.
- Master control lockout: Prevent another cycle from starting before the secondary reset action.
- Secondary push-button switch: Allow lower-floor personnel to confirm that unloading is complete.
- Visual status indication: Communicate the operating stage to personnel in both production areas.
Three-Color LED Status Indication
The system’s three-color LED signal light provides an additional layer of communication between the upper and lower floors. Each color represents a different stage of the operating sequence, allowing personnel to recognize the current status without needing to monitor the timer continuously.
- Yellow: The upper-floor processing cycle is underway.
- Green: The countdown is complete, and the lower-floor team can empty the hopper.
- Red: The lower-floor operator has completed the reset action, signaling that the upper-floor team can prepare to load the hopper again.
The signal light operates at 24 VDC and works alongside the master countdown and secondary reset station. This makes the system useful in production areas where a simple, highly visible status indication can help coordinate tasks between operators.
Industrial LED Display and Enclosure Design
The DC-25T-DN-BCD-NEMA-EOP features a four-digit LED display with 2.3-inch red digits, providing a readily visible indication of the countdown. Its BCD rotary set switches allow the countdown value to be preset, while the timer’s terminal connections support external control inputs from compatible switches, relays, sensors, or PLC equipment.
The enclosure is another important feature of this configuration. The timer uses an IP66-rated NEMA polycarbonate enclosure with a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. This construction helps protect the electronics against dust and powerful water jets, making it appropriate for many demanding industrial environments.
The custom system also incorporates a secondary red stainless-steel push-button switch connected by a 25-foot cord, providing a dedicated reset point for the lower-floor operator.
A Custom Timing Solution for HB Food Specialty
The DC-25T-DN-BCD-NEMA-EOP Master Secondary Countdown Timer demonstrates how DC-Digital can configure industrial timing equipment around a customer’s particular production requirements. For HB Food Specialty, the system is designed to coordinate the movement of materials between processing and packaging by connecting countdown timing with a secondary operator reset and visual status signals.
Rather than functioning as a standalone timer alone, this configuration supports a defined production sequence. The master controller manages the processing interval, the secondary station confirms completion of unloading, and the signal light communicates when each stage can proceed.
