Efficient scheduling and accurate time management are essential components of modern manufacturing operations. To help streamline facility operations, Land O’Frost Meats implemented a custom wireless digital clock and addressable relay system built around our DC-40-WR-System-NEMA and controlled through EZ-Time computerized master clock software.
This custom solution combines synchronized time display, automated relay control, and wireless communication into a single rugged NEMA 4X enclosure. The result is a versatile system capable of managing shift changes, production schedules, notifications, and facility automation while maintaining accurate synchronized time throughout the operation.
A Combined Clock and Relay Solution
Unlike traditional clock systems that simply display time, the DC-40-WR-System-NEMA integrates both a secondary clock and a relay controller into one enclosure. This allows equipment located at the clock installation point to be activated automatically according to a programmed schedule.
The integrated solid-state relay is rated for 120 VAC loads up to 10 amps and can be used to control:
- Shift change notifications
- Bells and buzzers
- Warning lights
- Alarms
- Production equipment signals
- Other electrically controlled devices
By combining these functions into a single device, installation complexity is reduced while providing facility managers with greater control over scheduled operations.
Designed for Industrial Environments
The DC-40-WR-System-NEMA features a durable NEMA 4X enclosure that provides protection against dust, moisture, corrosion, and other harsh environmental conditions commonly found in industrial and food processing facilities.
The clock utilizes large 4-inch LED digits that are visible up to 200 feet indoors, ensuring employees can easily view accurate synchronized time from across large production areas, warehouses, and manufacturing floors.
Like all of our products, this system is proudly made in the USA, including engineering, design, fabrication, assembly, technical support, and service.
Advanced Wireless Store-and-Forward Technology
One of the most unique aspects of the Land O’Frost installation is the use of our wireless Store-and-Forward communication technology.
Traditional wireless systems often depend on direct communication between a central controller and each remote device. As facilities become larger, maintaining reliable wireless coverage can become challenging.
Store-and-Forward technology solves this problem.
Whenever a wireless clock receives scheduling and timing information from the system controller, it stores the data and retransmits it to additional clocks within range. As long as another wireless clock is positioned between devices, the signal can continue propagating throughout the facility.
With wireless communication ranges typically extending from approximately 300 to 1,500 feet depending on the environment, each clock effectively becomes a repeater. This creates what can be considered an infinite wireless link, allowing the system to expand across very large facilities without requiring extensive infrastructure or additional repeaters.
Benefits include:
- Extended wireless coverage
- Reduced installation costs
- Improved system scalability
- Enhanced communication reliability
- Flexible facility expansion
Addressable Relay Control for Maximum Flexibility
Another key advantage of this custom system is its addressable relay architecture.
The wireless network supports relay addressing for up to 25 different zones or circuits, allowing facility managers to independently control multiple areas throughout the operation.
This capability provides exceptional flexibility for facilities that need to manage:
- Multiple production departments
- Separate work zones
- Different shift schedules
- Facility-wide notifications
- Lighting control
- Access control systems
- Specialized equipment automation
The addressable design allows specific relay events to be triggered only where needed, reducing unnecessary activations while improving operational efficiency.
Powered by EZ-Time Scheduling Software
At the heart of the system is our EZ-Time computerized master clock software. EZ-Time provides an intuitive Windows-based interface that simplifies schedule creation and management for complex facilities.
Using EZ-Time, operators can:
- Schedule relay events up to every minute
- Program virtually unlimited relay activations
- Control up to 99 scheduling zones
- Create recurring schedules
- Schedule months in advance
- Modify individual days without affecting recurring schedules
- Override schedules in real time
- Configure both maintained and momentary relay events
Momentary relay activations are especially useful for bells and notification systems, while maintained relay events can be used for applications requiring separate ON and OFF schedules.
The software’s flexibility makes it ideal for facilities operating multiple shifts, rotating shifts, split shifts, or irregular production schedules.
A Complete Facility Time and Automation Solution
As part of a larger synchronized clock system, the DC-40-WR-System-NEMA can work alongside additional wireless clocks and relay modules to create a comprehensive facility management network.
The system can be expanded to control:
- Bells and paging notifications
- Door locks
- Lighting systems
- Warning signals
- Production indicators
- Facility automation equipment
With synchronized timekeeping and programmable relay control operating together, organizations gain a powerful tool for improving productivity, communication, and operational consistency.
Built for Reliability and Growth
The custom system deployed at Land O’Frost Meats demonstrates how modern wireless clock technology can go far beyond simple time display. By combining synchronized time, addressable relay control, EZ-Time scheduling software, and Store-and-Forward wireless networking into a rugged NEMA 4X enclosure, facilities gain a scalable solution capable of supporting both current operational needs and future growth.
Whether managing shift changes, automating facility notifications, controlling equipment, or expanding wireless coverage across a large campus, the DC-40-WR-System-NEMA provides a dependable and flexible platform designed for demanding industrial applications.
