Countdown Timer

The DC-10T-DN Countdown Timer continues to demonstrate its flexibility and reliability through real-world applications, including a custom project completed for Galaxy Universal Systems. While the standard unit is designed for simple, user-friendly operation, this modified version highlights how easily it can be adapted for integration into complex control systems.

At its foundation, the DC-10T-DN features a bright one-inch LED display that is clearly visible from distances up to 50 feet. This ensures operators can quickly and easily monitor timing status, even in larger workspaces. During operation, the pulsing colon indicators provide a clear visual signal that the timer is actively counting down, making it easy to confirm functionality at a glance.

In a typical setup, the timer includes top-mounted tactile push-button controls that allow users to set hours and minutes, start the countdown, stop it, and reset either to the last value or to zero. For example, an operator can set a one-hour countdown, press start, and immediately see the timer begin running. If adjustments are needed, the process can be stopped and reset quickly. For shorter durations, such as a few minutes, the display automatically shows minutes and seconds for more precise tracking.

For Galaxy Universal Systems, the application required a more advanced and integrated approach. Their goal was to use the timer to control the activation of a pump within a filtration system, while also maintaining the ability to monitor and respond to system interruptions.

To meet these requirements, the DC-10T-DN was customized and installed directly into their control panel. The unit was provided without its standard enclosure and onboard push-buttons, allowing it to be fully integrated with external controls and system components.

Custom Integration Overview

The modified timer was configured to manage the operation of a water pump through a timed sequence. The system included:

  • A push button connected to set the hour value, with a maximum limit of 20 hours
  • A separate start button to initiate the countdown
  • Terminal strip connections for clean and organized wiring within the control panel
  • Operation powered by a customer-supplied 24VDC power source

When the countdown begins, the timer activates an onboard relay. This relay then energizes a larger external relay, which controls the water pump. This setup allows the timer to safely handle higher-power equipment while maintaining reliable performance.

Pause and Resume Functionality

An important feature of this custom configuration is its ability to pause rather than reset during a system interruption. If a fault occurs, a connected sensor opens the start circuit, which immediately pauses the countdown.

This provides several key benefits:

  • The operator can see how much time has already passed
  • The issue can be identified and corrected without losing progress
  • The timer can resume from the exact point where it stopped

This functionality is especially useful in filtration systems, where maintaining accurate timing and process continuity is critical.

Modified Features and Capabilities

To support this application, the DC-10T-DN included several custom modifications:

  • One-inch LED display with visibility up to 50 feet
  • Countdown timing with a maximum limit of 20 hours
  • Terminal strip connections for:
    • Start (closure to start, open to pause)
    • Hour setting
    • Zero reset
  • External start control for system integration
  • Pulsing colon indicators during active countdown
  • 24VDC power input supplied by the customer
  • Built-in onboard relay:
    • Active while counting
    • Inactive when paused or stopped
  • Compact design without enclosure or onboard buttons for panel mounting

A Flexible and Reliable Solution

This custom implementation demonstrates how the DC-10T-DN Countdown Timer can be adapted far beyond its standard configuration. By modifying the control inputs and output behavior, the timer becomes a key component in automated systems, capable of managing critical processes while still providing clear and simple operator feedback.

Whether used as a standalone timer or integrated into a control panel, the DC-10T-DN delivers dependable performance, clear visibility, and the flexibility needed for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
