The City of Tampa Solid Waste Management has requested a method of directing truck drivers which numbered lot they’re designated to drive to dispose of physical waste. This custom DC-152-Static-Key-W Master and DC-802-Static-Key-W Secondary Truck Loading and Unloading Bay Display system is designed to help facilities clearly and efficiently regulate which loading or unloading bay each truck is directed to for a controlled amount of time. By using a wireless keypad controller, operators can display a static bay number, allow it to remain visible for a preset duration, and then automatically return the display to a blank state so it is ready for the next truck assignment.

The system works by first setting a desired blank interval using the wireless keypad controller. This interval determines how long a bay number will remain visible before the display automatically turns off. Once the interval is set, the operator uses the same keypad to enter a static two-digit number representing the assigned bay. That number is immediately displayed on both the master and secondary units. After the programmed time expires, the displays automatically blank out, signaling that the system is ready for the next truck assignment. This process can be repeated continuously, allowing smooth traffic flow and reducing confusion at busy docks or yards.

In this configuration, the DC-152 serves as the master unit while the DC-802 operates as the secondary display. Whatever number is shown on the master is mirrored on the secondary in real time. Using a store-and-forward communication method, the system also supports expansion, allowing up to 100 secondary displays to show the same information from a single master unit. This makes it ideal for facilities with multiple viewing points or large truck yards.

The wireless keypad controller is the central point of operation. It allows operators to enter any number between 0 and 99, control when a display turns on or off, and define how long each bay number remains visible. A dedicated blank function lets the operator manually turn the display off when needed, while pressing it again instantly restores the display for the next entry.

Key operational functions include:

  • Setting a blank interval countdown for automatic display shutoff
  • Entering static bay numbers using the keypad
  • Displaying two-digit numbers from 0 to 99
  • Automatically blanking the display once the countdown expires
  • Repeating the process for continuous truck routing

From a hardware standpoint, both units are built for demanding industrial environments. Each enclosure is constructed from tough extruded aluminum and is IP-66 rated for outdoor wet locations. The enclosures are waterproof, fingerprint resistant, and designed for long-term durability.

Hardware highlights include:

  • DC-802 with an 8-inch display viewable up to 400 feet
  • DC-152 with a 15-inch display viewable up to 750 feet
  • Two-digit numeric displays capable of showing values from 0 to 99
  • Adjustable 1-inch stainless steel bolt mounting system
  • Rear extruded mounting channel located at the top of the enclosure
  • Dual DCGN 24W programmable controllers customizable to customer specifications

The wireless keypad controller operates at 5 volts and provides reliable long-range control, with an operating distance of up to 300 feet outdoors and up to 1,500 feet indoors. This allows operators to manage bay assignments from a safe and convenient location without running additional control wiring.

Overall, the DC-152-Static-Key-W and DC-802-Static-Key-W Master-Secondary display system provides a simple, reliable, and scalable solution for truck loading and unloading bay management. By combining automatic blanking intervals, clear numeric displays, and wireless control, this system helps streamline operations, improve traffic flow, and reduce miscommunication in busy industrial and logistics environments.
