This custom DC-406C-Term-Key-Pace Keypad Controlled Car Counter is heading out to Laughlin Constable, where it will be used to automatically track vehicle traffic entering a parking lot. The goal of this order is to simulate and monitor the number of cars arriving per second by programming a timed increment sequence. Instead of relying on manual input, the counter is configured to increment automatically based on a user-defined time interval, making it ideal for traffic flow analysis, parking utilization studies, and operational planning.
At the core of this system is our DC-Gen-24 keypad controller, which allows the user to define exactly how the counter behaves. The controller connects directly into the enclosure via a terminal block and features a modular RJ-45 connection at the top, along with 25 feet of cabling for flexible installation. Once connected, the keypad provides full command over how the counter increments—whether by seconds per unit or units per second.
To simulate vehicle entry, the client uses the “Seconds per Unit” function. When this button is pressed, the LED indicators begin flashing red, signaling that the unit is ready to accept input. Using the 0–9 push buttons, the user types in the desired number of seconds that should pass before the counter increases by one. For example, if the parking lot averages one car every 10 seconds, the operator presses “1” and “0” to set 10 seconds. After entering the value, pressing “Enter and Start” locks in the setting. The LEDs stop flashing, and the internal clock begins counting upward. Each time the programmed interval—10 seconds in this case—passes, the display increments by one, accurately simulating vehicle entry.
If traffic flow changes, the setting can be easily modified. Pressing the “Seconds per Unit” button again allows the user to input a new time interval. The “0” button can be used to reset the desired count function back to zero before entering a new value, such as 35 seconds. Once “Enter and Start” is pressed, the counter will now increment once every 35 seconds. This flexibility allows Laughlin Constable to adjust the simulation based on different traffic conditions or testing scenarios.
In addition to time-based increments, the unit also features a “Units per Second” mode. This setting allows the counter to increase rapidly based on how many units are produced or detected per second. After pressing the “Units per Second” button, the LED lights flash to indicate input mode. For example, entering 15 units per second and pressing “Enter and Start” causes the display to increment at a rapid pace, reflecting high-frequency activity. The “Pause and Resume” button allows the operator to temporarily halt the count, with LEDs flashing to indicate pause mode, and resume counting as needed. This provides full operational control during demonstrations, testing, or live data tracking.
Key functional features include:
- Six-digit display capable of counting up to 999,999
- Programmable “Seconds per Unit” for timed increment simulation
- Adjustable “Units per Second” for rapid count applications
- 0–9 numeric keypad input
- Enter and Start command to initiate timed counting
- Pause and Resume functionality for operational control
- Reset capability for quick reconfiguration
From a hardware standpoint, the DC-406C-Term-Key-Pace is built for durability and long-term indoor use. The enclosure is constructed from tough 14-gauge aluminum with a black powder-coated finish that is both fingerprint and dust resistant. The 4-inch LED display can be viewed from distances up to 200 feet, ensuring clear visibility across large areas such as parking lots, garages, or monitoring stations. The unit is powered by a 120–240 VAC wall adapter for dependable operation, and knockout teardrop mounting holes on the back of the enclosure allow for secure wall installation.
The included DC-Gen-24 keypad controller features 24 keys and is engineered for straightforward integration. Its 25-foot cable provides installation flexibility, and the RJ-45 modular connection at the controller links directly to the terminal block inside the enclosure, allowing the user to securely screw and unscrew connections as needed.
This custom configuration gives Laughlin Constable a controlled, programmable solution for simulating and tracking vehicle entry intervals. Whether used for data collection, operational testing, or traffic modeling, the DC-406C-Term-Key-Pace Keypad Controlled Car Counter delivers precise, adjustable counting performance in a durable and highly visible display system.
