System Clock and Count up timer in 1 Enclosure
See product: DC-25-W-SYSTEM & DC-25T-UP-TERM
Stainless Steel Remote Controller: SW-1-HD-RED
A hospital ordered a custom dual-display timing system designed to provide both an accurate time of day display and a dedicated count-up timer in a single compact enclosure. The system combines the DC-25-2W-System time of day clock with the DC-25T-UP-TERM count-up timer, allowing two separate timing functions to be available together where elapsed-time monitoring and synchronized clock information are important.
The upper portion of the enclosure provides the time of day display and operates as a secondary clock connected through a wireless link to an atomic master clock. The system maintains synchronization with the master clock, providing an accurate and consistent time reference without requiring the secondary display to be manually adjusted. The clock operates in either 12- or 24-hour format and uses four 2.3-inch super-bright red LED digits that can be viewed from distances up to approximately 120 feet.
The lower portion of the enclosure is configured as a count-up timer using the DC-25T-UP-TERM. The timer is designed to measure elapsed time, counting upward from hundredths of a second through as much as 99 hours using Shift Digit Technology. This makes the display suitable for applications where the amount of elapsed time needs to remain visible during an ongoing procedure or operation.
The timer is operated using an external SW-1-HD-RED heavy-duty red palm switch connected with 25 feet of cable. The switch provides two primary actions for the application: one action resets the timer to zero and starts the count, while the second action stops the timer. This arrangement allows the timer to be operated from a convenient location without requiring direct access to the display enclosure.
Key features of the hospital’s dual-display system include:
- Combined time of day clock and count-up timer in one enclosure
- Time of day display synchronized to an atomic master clock
- 2.3-inch red LED digits on both display functions
- Count-up timing from hundredths of a second to 99 hours
- External heavy-duty palm switch control
- 25-foot switch cable for convenient remote operation
- Reset-and-start and stop timer functions
- Approximately 120-foot viewing distance
- Compact aluminum enclosure designed for wall mounting
The DC-25T-UP-TERM also supports multiple external control methods, allowing its timer functions to be integrated into different operating environments. Each control terminal can accept momentary contact closure or PNP 5–30 VDC inputs, with optional NPN control also available. For this hospital application, the heavy-duty palm switch provides a straightforward physical interface for starting, resetting, and stopping the elapsed-time display.
Both displays use a tough 14-gauge aluminum IP-60 enclosure with a textured, fingerprint-resistant black powder-coated finish. The enclosure measures approximately 9-3/4 inches wide by 4-3/4 inches tall by 3 inches deep and is designed for mounting to a 4 X 4 or 2 X 4 electrical rough-in box using the slotted tear-drop knockout.
The clock portion operates from the DC-Digital two-wire clock system, using power and data communication to maintain synchronization with the connected master clock. The system uses 24 VDC power and communicates using 9600 baud 8N1 ASCII data over the two power wires through polarity reversal. The count-up timer is supplied with a PS-12-700 120–240 VAC power adapter with a six-foot cord and can also accept customer-supplied 24 VDC power.
For a hospital room environment, this combination provides two useful timing references in one display: a continuously synchronized time of day clock and an independently controlled elapsed-time timer. The dual-display configuration keeps both functions visible at the same location while the external palm switch provides simple, direct control of the count-up timing function.
