Red Box Workshop selected a custom-built DC-Digital two-digit countdown timer for use in a kids basketball competition exhibit. Designed specifically for an interactive basketball experience, the timer provides a clear 24-second countdown that gives participants a defined amount of time to complete the activity. The custom configuration allows the timer to operate with a hard-coded 24-second countdown program, making operation simple for young participants and exhibit visitors.

The countdown begins when the user activates the control switch. Once activated, the timer resets to the programmed 24-second starting point and begins counting down. This creates a straightforward shot-clock-style experience that can be incorporated into basketball exhibits, interactive displays, demonstrations, recreational activities, and other applications where a clearly defined countdown period is needed.

The timer uses two 8-inch red LED digits that provide a highly visible countdown display. The sunlight-resistant 621nm LEDs are arranged in a seven-segment format and provide a 110° x 40° viewing angle, allowing the remaining time to be easily seen by participants and spectators. With a viewing distance of approximately 400 feet, the display can remain visible across a large indoor or outdoor exhibit area.

The aluminum enclosure is designed for demanding environments and carries an IP-66 outdoor wet-location waterproof rating. Its black powder-coated, fingerprint-resistant finish provides a durable enclosure for applications where the display may be handled or exposed to outdoor conditions. The compact enclosure measures 12.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches deep.

The custom timer also incorporates wireless control using a LoRa RF control module operating in the 902–928 MHz range. The FCC-tested and certified wireless system provides long-range control while incorporating continuous signal checking for reliable, no-fault timing operation. The handheld remote can operate from more than 1,500 feet outdoors and more than 300 feet indoors, providing flexibility for installations where the operator needs to control the timer from a distance.
