The NBA contacted DC-Digital earlier this year looking for a countdown timer. They needed 40 timers that would be used in every NBA game. When the NBA began consulting with DC-Digital, no such timer existed. DC-Digital had to work with the NBA to fulfill their custom request of such a unique timer by using our experience and expertise in this industry to design a solution. The specific requirement for this custom job was that the timer automatically began counting down when a game official reviewed replay video.
This year, the NBA is implementing a new rule in which there is a two minute time limit on instant replay reviews. The difficult part was that there are two different camera angles that would need to be reviewed in the allotted time. The timer also needed to reset itself to two minutes once the official is done reviewing the footage. DC-Digital was given four weeks to have all 40 timers ready for game day. Thanks to DC-Digital’s efforts and commitment to our clients, we were able to deliver on time and within the budget of the NBA.
The NBA countdown timer has four 2.3” red LED (light emitting diode) digits, readable up to 120 feet indoors. This particular item was purchased with the circuit and lens only, as the NBA provided their own enclosure. It has 2 foot flying leads for power and control. It requires 24 volts DC (direct current). Upon powering up, the timer is set at 2:00. Once the video begins, the timer starts to count down. Upon completion of the video, the timer resets at 2:00 until another review is called for.
