The DC-25T-DN-BCD is a custom-built countdown timer designed for applications where a clearly defined response time is critical. In this configuration, the unit is being used as a firehouse turnout timer, helping crews track the time it takes to get out the door after an alarm. This model allows the goal time to be set directly on the BCD switches located on the top of the enclosure, giving users a simple way to configure the countdown without external programming.

The timer can be set for values up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds, providing plenty of flexibility depending on the operational requirements. Each BCD dial represents a specific digit in the time configuration. The first switch controls the tens of minutes, the second controls the ones of minutes, the third controls the tens of seconds, and the final switch controls the ones of seconds. Once the desired time is set, the unit will count down from that value whenever the start/reset circuit is triggered.

This particular timer operates using a maintained start with open reset to BCD value, which makes it different from our standard timer configuration. When the maintained connection is active, the timer runs. When the connection is opened, the display resets and prepares for the next cycle. In the example demonstration, a simple toggle switch is used to show how the timer resets to the programmed BCD value and begins counting down. When the connection is opened again, the timer resets to zero and waits for the next activation.

Another functional characteristic of this model is the display behavior. The timer maintains the minute-minute second-second format throughout the countdown. Unlike some timers that shift the display to show tenths or hundredths of a second when the timer drops below one minute, this unit keeps the same four-digit layout for the entire countdown cycle. When the timer reaches zero, the display remains at zero until the start/reset connection is opened again.

Beyond its functionality, the DC-25T-DN-BCD also includes several custom hardware choices that make it stand out from the standard model.

Key hardware features include:

  • 2.3-inch segmented LED digits for clear visibility at a distance
  • Green LED display instead of the standard red digits
  • Smoke-tinted front lens rather than the typical red lens
  • Powder-coated aluminum enclosure for durability in demanding environments
  • Teardrop mounting tabs on the back of the case (three on top and three on bottom) for secure installation

Power and control connections are designed to be simple and flexible. The timer operates on 12 VDC at 0.7 amps through a coax power connection located on the right side of the enclosure. Alternatively, 24 VDC can be supplied through the OPTO input terminals on the top of the case.

Control wiring is equally straightforward:

  • Terminal 1 is used for the maintained start and open reset input
  • Accepts dry contact or PNP input from 5–30 VDC
  • Designed specifically for systems where a maintained control signal is preferred

This configuration makes the DC-25T-DN-BCD particularly useful in environments like fire stations, emergency response facilities, and other applications where response time tracking and visual countdowns are important.
