The DC-60T-Up-Rock Climbing PKG Tripod Mountable Outdoor Up-Timer is a custom-built solution designed specifically for a rock climbing enthusiast in Illinois who wants to accurately track competitive climb times in an outdoor environment. Built for performance, visibility, and durability, this unit allows event organizers and competitors to clearly monitor how long it takes participants to scale a rock wall. Whether mounted directly to a wall or positioned on a tripod for optimal viewing, this system delivers precise time tracking down to the thousandth of a second while standing up to demanding outdoor conditions.

This order was configured with real-world climbing competitions in mind. The customer’s goal is to use the up-timer in combination with the tiltable wall mount to create a highly visible and reliable timing display for competitors and spectators alike. The enclosure is fully outdoor-rated, meaning it can be installed in wet locations or exposed to changing weather conditions without compromising performance.

At the base of the unit, we’ve integrated a tripod mount that connects directly to a standard tripod, which we are also supplying. This provides flexible placement options for competitions and practice sessions. Additionally, the included wall-mountable bracket allows the unit to be secured to a fixed structure. Once mounted, the timer can be tilted downward at a 30° angle, ensuring optimal visibility from below the climbing wall—ideal for spectators, judges, and participants tracking their times in real time.

Functionality is controlled through two environmentally sealed palm-style push button switches—one black and one red—both connected to a terminal block housed in a junction box on the right side of the enclosure. These sealed switches are built for outdoor use and reliable operation in rugged environments.

Here’s how the system operates during a climbing event:

• The black environmentally sealed push button serves three functions: start, stop, and reset.
• The red environmentally sealed push button has a single dedicated stop function.

To begin timing, the user presses the black palm switch. Immediately, the timer begins counting upward, displaying time down to the thousandth of a second. The thousandths are shown on the left, with seconds displayed alongside them. This level of precision makes it ideal for competitive climbing where fractions of a second matter.

As the timer progresses and reaches 60 seconds, the unit’s shift digit technology automatically transitions the display format. Instead of continuing to show thousandths, the display shifts to show minutes and seconds. This seamless transition ensures clarity as climbs extend beyond one minute, maintaining a clean and readable format without manual adjustment.

When a competitor completes their climb, the red palm switch can be pressed to instantly pause the timer. For example, if the display reads 1 minute and 51 seconds, pressing the red switch freezes that time for accurate recording. This dedicated stop button also serves as a safety feature—if a mistimed event occurs or a climber experiences an issue, the operator can immediately halt the timer and respond.

The black palm switch’s multi-function capability provides additional control:

• Press once to start.
• Press again while running to stop.
• Press once more while paused to reset the timer back to zero.

This start-stop-reset cycle allows event organizers to quickly prepare for the next climber without complicated setup. The reset function ensures the display returns cleanly to 0 before the next ascent begins.
