Oil Change Service Timer for Auto/Repair Shops
The DC-40T-UP-PKG is a complete count-up timing package designed for applications where tracking how long an activity takes is important. This custom configuration combines a 4-inch digital count-up timer with an infrared presence sensor, mounting hardware, and the required wiring so the system can be installed and used right out of the box. Because the sensor is included as part of the package, the system arrives fully prepared for activation-based timing without the need to source additional components. The goal of this configuration is simple: detect the presence of an object and automatically start timing the duration of that activity.
In this custom order, the unit is being used by a car dealership to monitor oil change times. The timer will be mounted above the vehicle service area so that when a car pulls into position for service, the sensor detects the vehicle and automatically starts the timer. As long as the vehicle remains in the sensor’s detection range, the timer continues to count upward. This allows technicians and managers to track how long each service takes and easily record the final time once the vehicle leaves the service bay.
The system operates using an infrared sensor that detects presence or reflection within its field. When the sensor detects an object, it activates the timer input. The activation is maintained while the object remains in view of the sensor. Once the vehicle leaves the detection area, the signal is removed and the timer stops counting, holding the last recorded time on the display so it can be logged or reviewed.
Because the timer automatically resets when a new activation occurs, the process is simple for repeated operations. When the next vehicle enters the service area and the sensor detects it, the timer resets and immediately begins counting again. This makes the system ideal for environments where the same timing process is repeated throughout the day.
The DC-40T-UP-PKG features large 4-inch LED digits that provide clear visibility across service bays or shop floors. The display uses shift-digit timing technology, allowing the timer to show tenths, hundredths, and seconds depending on the stage of the count. While an oil change may not require hundredth-of-a-second accuracy, the feature ensures the timer can be used for other precision timing applications as well.
Key features of the DC-40T-UP-PKG include:
- 4-inch LED count-up timer display for long-distance visibility
- Infrared presence sensor included in the package
- Sensor mounting hardware and wiring included
- Adjustable sensing distance from approximately 1 foot to 10 feet
- Adjustable light sensitivity on the sensor
- Maintained activation while an object remains in the detection area
- Automatic reset when a new object enters the sensor range
- Counts up to 99 hours
- Terminal block wiring connections for simple installation
The included sensor allows installers to fine-tune the detection distance and sensitivity. Beneath the protective dust cover on the sensor housing is an adjustment that controls the light sensitivity and detection range. This allows the sensor to be set anywhere from approximately one foot to ten feet depending on the mounting height and environment.
Installation is straightforward thanks to the timer’s all-aluminum enclosure and accessible rear connection panel. All electrical connections are made through terminal blocks on the back of the unit. The timer can be mounted to a standard four-square electrical box or a handy box, making it easy to integrate into existing electrical setups. Wiring can be routed through half-inch conduit knockouts located on the sides or the back of the enclosure.
Power for the system is supplied through a 120-volt wall adapter that includes a six-foot cord. This adapter plugs directly into the timer and provides the necessary power for both the display and the sensor activation input.
With its simple operation and complete sensor package, the DC-40T-UP-PKG provides a reliable way to measure process times automatically. Whether it is used in a service department to track oil change durations, in manufacturing to monitor work cycles, or in any environment where presence-based timing is needed, the system offers an easy-to-install solution for accurate time tracking.
