The Honolulu Fire Department wanted a computer controlled turn out timer display with an end of period buzzer and Andon light for additional visual and audible output. This will allow the fire fighters to see how much time has elapsed since receiving the dispatch call for help.
The DC-40N-T-UP-FIRE-ANDON-BUZZ is a custom digital timer display designed to track response times and provide clear visual and audible alerts when a preset goal time is reached. This configuration is commonly used by fire departments and other emergency response teams that need a simple and reliable way to measure how quickly personnel respond to incoming calls.
When a call is received, the display begins counting upward to track the total response time. A programmed threshold value acts as a goal time. Once the timer reaches that threshold, the system activates both alerts: the buzzer sounds for three seconds and the ANDON light turns on. The timer continues counting upward after the threshold is reached, allowing teams to see exactly how long the response took and evaluate whether adjustments are needed to meet future goals.
The threshold value can be configured through the display’s network interface. Each unit includes a MAC address label that allows the device to be identified using IP setup software. After launching the configuration webpage, commands can be sent directly to the display to control timer functions and settings. The threshold is set using a TH command, which allows users to define the target time and determine whether the buzzer will activate when the threshold is reached.
Once configured, the count-up timer can be started, stopped, or reset using command protocols. When the threshold is reached, the ANDON light remains on until the timer is reset, providing a persistent visual indicator that the goal time has been exceeded.
In addition to the threshold timer function, the display retains the versatile capabilities of the standard DC-40 timer platform.
Display modes include:
- Time of day clock display
- Count-up timer
- Countdown timer
- Static number display
This configuration also includes hardware enhancements designed for clear notification in active environments.
Key hardware features:
- 4-inch red segmented LED digits for high visibility
- Integrated ANDON light for visual alert indication
- DC-EOP-HIGH buzzer with adjustable volume from 85–95 dB
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) connection for both power and data
The display is housed in a durable powder-coated aluminum enclosure and can be wall mounted using the built-in teardrop mounting knockouts or placed on a surface using optional rubber feet. For additional protection, the internal electronics were treated with conformal coating to help guard against humidity.
Only a single PoE connection is required for installation, allowing both power and network communication to be delivered through one Ethernet cable.
All units are manufactured and assembled in Carlisle, Ohio, and can be customized to meet specific timing, display, or signaling requirements.
