Countdown Timer

This custom DC-80T-DN-BCD Countdown, End of Work Timer was built specifically for Convergint Technologies, a global systems integrator, to clearly display how much time remains before the workday comes to an end. Designed for high visibility and simple operation, this countdown timer provides a reliable, visual cue that can be easily integrated into a variety of commercial and industrial environments where time awareness is critical.

The DC-80T-DN-BCD allows the user to set a desired countdown duration directly on the unit using integrated BCD rotary switches located at the bottom of the enclosure. This makes it easy to adjust the countdown without needing software, networking, or external controllers. In this application, the timer is commonly set to reflect the final minutes of the workday, giving employees a clear, easy-to-read indication of remaining time.

Operation is controlled through a maintained contact closure or open system using multi-input wires. When the wires are in contact (closure), the timer pauses and resets back to the last programmed value. When the wires are separated (open), the countdown begins and continues uninterrupted until it reaches zero. This simple wiring logic allows the timer to be controlled by external systems, switches, or relays, making it ideal for integration into existing control workflows.

To demonstrate typical use, the countdown can be adjusted from its maximum setting to a shorter interval, such as 15 minutes, by rotating the BCD switches with a flathead screwdriver until the desired value appears on the display. Once set, separating the control wires immediately starts the countdown. Reconnecting the wires at any time will pause the timer and reset it to the previously selected duration, ready for the next cycle.

Key functional highlights include:

  • Manual time setting via onboard BCD rotary switches
  • Maintained contact closure or open control for start, pause, and reset
  • Clear, automatic reset to the last programmed value after reaching zero
  • Ideal for end-of-shift, end-of-task, or end-of-day countdown applications

From a hardware standpoint, this model is built for durability and long-term use. The enclosure is constructed from tough aluminum with a black powder-coated finish that is fingerprint resistant and rated IP-66 for waterproof protection. The housing measures 25 inches wide, 11 inches tall, and 3 inches deep, making it suitable for wall mounting in industrial or commercial spaces.

The display features four large digits with an 8-inch display height, offering excellent readability from distances of up to 400 feet. The timer can display up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds, providing flexibility for a wide range of countdown scenarios. Power is supplied via a 100–240 VAC junction box with pigtails that are directly grounded into the unit for safe and reliable operation.

Additional hardware features include:

  • Four-digit countdown display up to 99:59
  • High-visibility LED digits for long-distance viewing
  • C-channel mounting for secure installation on flat, concrete-like surfaces
  • Internal BCD rotary switches positioned at the bottom of the enclosure
  • Multi-input wiring for maintained contact closure or open control

The DC-80T-DN-BCD Countdown, End of Work Timer is a straightforward yet powerful visual timing solution. For Convergint Technologies, it delivers a dependable way to communicate remaining work time, improve awareness, and integrate seamlessly into existing control systems, all while maintaining a rugged, professional-grade design built to perform in demanding environments.
