The Federal Aviation Administration came to Dc-Digital because they needed to develop a timing system in which they could be most efficient for the take off and landing of airplanes. They needed to maintain safety precautions and not collide. DC-Digital was able to use 3D modeling to interpret and illustrateĀ the customer’s design requirements and provide a concept of our solution. The FAA developed a timing method in which the control tower attendants could time each plane, either by two or three minutes, depending on the aircraft’s needs. This would allow sufficient time for planes to take off or land as close together as possible without causing runway jams or crashing into each other.
The specific product we built for them was three custom DC-10 count down timers. This timer has two buttons. One button is programmed to count down from two minutes, andĀ the other is programmed to count down from three minutes. This allowed the control tower attendants to have a safe timing method at the push of a button. Along with these timers, the FAA also provided the dimensions for a custom face plate that held the clocks and could be built into their existing tower controls.
