IAS Technology selected the DC-40N-Static 4-inch LED static number display from DC-Digital for an application requiring flexible, network-based control of displayed numbers. By combining the display with a Crestron controller, IAS Technology can provide its customers with an easy way to instantly change the numbers shown on the display.
The DC-40N-Static is designed specifically for applications where numbers need to be updated electronically over a network. The display accepts command data through its Ethernet connection, allowing a control system to send information directly to the display’s IP address. DC-Digital’s open network protocol supports TCP or UDP communication, making the display compatible with a wide range of automation and control platforms.
For the IAS Technology application, the Crestron controller provides the user interface and sends the appropriate command to the DC-40N-Static. This gives the end user direct control over the information displayed without requiring a separate keypad or physical control panel.
The network protocol also provides substantial flexibility for larger installations. Displays can be assigned using a two-letter group and channel addressing system, allowing up to 676 displays to be addressed from a single IP address. Individual displays or groups of displays can therefore receive specific commands from a centralized control system.
The DC-40N-Static is capable of displaying four static numbers and can be configured with numbers, a colon, or a decimal point. The network-connected version also supports more advanced functions on compatible models, including count-up timers, countdown timers, and time-of-day clock operation.
The 4-inch red LED digits provide visibility from up to 200 feet, while the heavy-duty 14-gauge aluminum enclosure provides a durable housing for the electronics. The display measures approximately 16-1/4 inches wide by 6-3/4 inches high and 3 inches deep and connects to the network through an Ethernet RJ-45 connection.
For system integrators such as IAS Technology, the DC-40N-Static provides a straightforward method for incorporating a large, highly visible numerical display into a larger automation or control system. Its compatibility with third-party platforms such as Crestron, along with TCP/UDP network control and flexible addressing, allows the display to become part of a customized customer solution rather than functioning as a standalone number display.
The IAS Technology order demonstrates how DC-Digital network-controlled LED displays can be integrated into professional automation systems to give customers immediate and centralized control over the information displayed.
